Our week

This has been our first week of summer vacation, and man, has it been exciting! Hopefully, it has been to a 5 year old and a 2 year old anyway.

Tuesday night, Scott and his soccer team played for the league championship. Unfortunately, they lost, but the kids had a great time going to watch. This was their first time watching "Daddy's soccer ball game" because most of his games happen well after bedtime. It's an indoor league, and we stood right next to the wall, which was great, but everytime the ball or one of the players hit the wall near us, it totally freaked my kids out. Luckily, that happened just as I was shooting this picture. I love Avery's face. And this isn't fake - she really was startled by the ball.

So this is how Donovan spent most of the game:

Avery had her dance class photos, and was lucky enough to get to wear MAKEUP!!! Now, for those who don't have 5 year old girls, you may not understand that wearing makeup is one of the highest honors in the world. And guess who had almost as much fun as Avery did with the makeup? Me. If I had eyelashes like this, I would never stop standing in front of the mirror and putting on more mascara. Is it bad that I'm a little jealous of my daughter's eyelashes?

Here she is practicing her camera smile. I told her to picture something funny when the photographer took her picture, and she told me she was going to picture "Daddy wearing swimming flippers and a chicken suit." Ooooookaaaaayy... Whatever floats your boat, kid.

Up until yesterday, we've had beautiful weather this week. It has been one of the 6 days of the year that weather is nice in Northern Virginia. Today and yesterday reminded me why I hate the humidity. But we took full advantage of it while the weather was nice with a bubble blowing party:

We also discovered a colony of ants living underneath the bricks on our patio. The kids had a great time feeding them tortilla chips to determine just how big of a piece the ants could carry.

Donovan wanted the ants to share their chips with him.

We finally moved all the rest of the stuff out of our self storage unit. We rented one awhile back when we put our condo up for sale, so there wouldn't be any clutter (aka toys) messing up the place. It has been like Christmas for the kids as we pull the new old toys out and play with them for the first time in a long time. Donovan can't get enough of "Buncher" the bouncing pony that my friend Erica gave us a couple of years ago. (Thanks, Erica - we still love it!)

He also couldn't get enough of his baby swing. Look how cute and little he looks when he's all balled up. It almost looks like he fits in it, right?

...until he stretches out his long legs and they touch the floor. This kid has looong legs.
