A few weeks ago, we went to Chick-Fil-A and in our kids meals got one Spanish learning CD and one Italian CD. We have been listening to them in the car, especially the Spanish one. Avery loves it and begs to listen to it everytime we get in the car. She truly thinks that she can now speak Spanish. Today, some of our neighbor kids were playing out front. Avery came to me and asked "Which country do they speak Spanish in?" I told her that there are lots of countries where they speak Spanish and started to name some off - Spain, Mexico, Chile, etc. She then told me that she was going to go outside and say "Hola" to the kids so they would think she was from Mexico. I didn't have the heart to tell her that she'd never pass for Mexican... Later, we went to the park. She met a new friend there (this kid meets friends wherever she goes) and as I was pushing Donovan on the swings, I heard her telling this girl that she speaks Spanish. The girl, who happened to be a native Spanish speaker, asked her what she could say and Avery rattled off a few of her words, like "hola," "buenos noche" and stuff like that. Needless to say, the girl wasn't too impressed with her three or four words, but Avery was very proud of herself and talked all evening about how she spoke Spanish with her new friend.
Avery has recently mastered the art of winking. She also knows that if you say something and wink while you're saying it, that you don't really mean what you're saying - joking. So her new favorite thing to do is when Donovan is having fits she'll go around saying "Dono is delightful" and winking at everyone. She thinks she's hilarious.
In unrelated news, I'm gearing up to potty train Donovan. I think it'll happen sometime this summer, whenever I can get ready to just make the plunge. He's mildly obsessed with pooping and every time he goes #2, he'll tell me that he needs to "poo poo toilet." The problem is that he tells us AFTER the fact, not before. But I think he's getting close. Tonight, however, I think we had a bit of a set-back. We went to the park, and about halfway through our fun time, Avery told me that she needed to go potty. Well, sometimes, in the past, when we've been outside, I've taken Avery behind a tree so she can "nature-potty." (This may make me a bad mom, but my friend Amanda does it all the time with her kids and says it's ok, not against the law, and sanitary, so I believe her.) So that's what we did tonight. Well, afterwards, Donovan decided he wanted to try and kept demanding to "poo poo outside." Don't you judge me.

So funny...I love the winking. How do you not crack up while she is 'winking' at Dono??
Avery is such a kick in the pants. She's such a pretty girl. Those pictures of being done with preschool & how much she's changed are so sweet.
