DC Cherry Blossoms

After conference today, we went down to the Tidal Basin to see the famed DC Cherry Blossoms. It was lovely,

but very crowded.

And I had my camera with me and went a little crazy. So please to enjoy about 99 pictures of my kids with the Cherry Blossoms:

Scooter-ific Saturday

Yesterday was the perfect spring day. I don't think there is a better place to be in the spring than Northern Virginia. Between conference sessions, we down to the river. Avery got a scooter for her birthday and has been wanting to go for a scooter ride. She's getting pretty good at it!

How cute are they? Dono's got a bit of a spring in his step!

This is what I see out my front door.

I do have some sad news though. Remember the mother goose we found? We have been going down to check on her, waiting for her eggs to hatch. Well, on Friday, we had a really heavy rainstorm. Our front yard was like a little pond. When we went down to check on Mother Goose yesterday, her nest had washed away. We could still see a couple of the eggs at the bottom of the river. Avery was really upset that the mama had left her babies. We talked about why she had to leave her babies behind, and Avery finally said "But you'll never do that, right mama?" I assured her that I wouldn't.

Avery is 6!

Avery turned 6 on March 28. We partied really really hardy. We started with cupcakes at school.

Donovan came along and stuffed his face with them as well.

On her actual birthday, she woke up to ballons and pancakes with candles in them.

And then we piled up the minivan with friends and headed down to Build-A-Bear. (Some friends met us there.)

We ate cupcakes and opened presents in the food court. (Apparently, we are very serious about birthday cupcakes.)

That afternoon, we headed over to a Japanese restaurant for some fun lunch. Avery really liked the guy lighting a fire right on our table.

That night, we had birthday party #2. Well, it was really just our turn to babysit for our babysitting co-op, but we made our friends come over in their pj's and watched a movie, and of course, had more cupcakes.

Happy Birthday, Avery! I can't believe you're 6!!!

Field Trip with Daddy

On March 27, Avery's class took a fieldtrip into DC. They rode the metro, visited the Smithsonian American History Museum and played and picnicked on the mall. Avery was very excited that Scott was going with her, and even though I was sad to miss out, I was glad he got to have that experience with her.

Last week, Avery got her costume for her dance recital. It is really cute, and she looooves it! Also, she and Adrienne were both invited to be part of the dance company. Avery wants to do it, but I don't think we're ready to make that kind of a time committment just yet.
